Much Ado about the Wedding Cake!

Wedding cakes have been a tradition since the Roman times. During that time a thin wheat cake, representing bounty, was crumbled over the bride's head to ensure her fertility. Today we have adapted this to the bride and groom cutting the cake together and sometimes the groom lovingly smashes the cake in the glowing bride's face. This taste of the first slice serves as a symbol of the bride and groom's willingness to share a household.

What do you think, should we make a big mess shoving cake everywhere?

There are superstitions that it is bad luck for a guest to leave the reception without tasting the cake. So make sure you all eat up!

What About this?

Another Tradition is that a piece of the bride's cake under a single person's pillow will lead to "dreams of a future spouse". Anyone need a piece?

  1. I have read articles that state studies of those that are nice and those that are not nice when doing the cake tradition at receptions. The study showed that those who were nice had a substantially higher success rate in marriage. Those that were mean/messy were much more likely to divorce at some point. I don't know, but I thought it was interesting. After reading that, we talked about the weddings we could remember the cake part and it was true for every one we could remember...so, who knows?!

  2. <3 the cupcake idea... :)

But then again, I'm all about the messy cake eating... it might provide that playfulness needed when all eyes are staring at you...

If Ry and I ever decided to do the big deed - you better be wearing a poncho is all I have to say ;).
